In addition to working on our design projects, McGill BioDesign provides Bioengineering lab tours, holds workshops so members can learn skills like CAD, and hosts social events to foster a sense of community both inside and outside of our team. We are excited to reach out to a younger demographic and always looking for occasions to learn new things or share our knowledge with others.
Our outreach efforts are mainly targeted toward high school and CEGEP students, especially those who are interested in STEM programs/fields. We hope that exposing them to actual student research and projects can encourage them to learn more about Engineering, and the diversity of research as well as careers it provides. We would love to share our passion for biotechnology and Engineering with others and are excited to connect with younger students.
Les Filles et les Sciences
On October 27th, two members of our club held a booth at the "Les Filles et les Sciences: un duo électrisant" event to inspire young high school women to pursue a career in STEM and engineering. Our members presented microneedles and a microfluidic chip, sharing their experiences in the field of bioengineering, in the hopes of inspiring future engineers. Over 40 students and parents attended our booth! It was also a great opportunity to meet many professionals in the field and connect to collaborate on future outreach activities in local high schools and CÉGEPs. Thank you to Technoscience, École Polytechnique, and ÉTS for organizing such a successful event!
In-person events are back with Caravan Visits! McGill BioDesign visited Vanier, John Abbott and Marianopolis this year. Students got the chance to learn more about the Department of Bioengineering at McGill as well as the different projects that the members of the design team are working on. Take a look below at the photos from the visits, and make sure to check back in the fall for more outreach events!
McGill BioDesign also held a case competition for CEGEP students on the topic of Public Health in Ghana. Check out this page for more details, and to see the winning proposal!
